Explanation
The Arab Chess Federation, abbreviated ACF in the FIDE directory, brings together federations connected by the Arab regional and cultural sphere. The International Chess Federation, or , recognizes it as an affiliated organization. It is not a continental confederation: its members may be geographically located in either Africa or Asia.
Its work includes supervising Arab competitions, encouraging exchange among federations, and developing technical, administrative and educational initiatives. It provides a shared layer of coordination without replacing the national federations that select players and administer tournaments within each country.
Because its geography overlaps two continents, it must be distinguished from the and the Asian Chess Federation. A national federation can take part in different structures depending on whether the event is continental, Arab or worldwide.
Common confusions
The initials ACF
FIDE displays ACF for Arab Chess Federation, while the Olympic Council of Asia also uses ACF for Asian Chess Federation. The full name removes the ambiguity.
