Top Board Results

Top Board Results, abbreviated TBR, is a tie-break, meaning a rule for ordering teams that remain level. Each team encounter places players on numbered boards: board one is the highest board, followed by board two and so on. Game points are the individual points earned on those boards, normally 1 for a win, 0.5 for a draw and 0 for a loss.

TBR totals all game points scored by the team on board one throughout the event, regardless of which team member occupied that board in each round. If that comparison does not separate the tied teams, the calculation is repeated for the highest board not yet counted, then for the next one, until the tie is broken.

The regulations describe it especially for team knockouts when two teams have equal match points and game points, although event rules may include it in other team competitions. It does not measure the personal performance of the highest-rated player. It measures production from a board position across the event, unlike SSSC, which combines a secondary score with schedule strength.
