ICCF

ICCF stands for International Correspondence Chess Federation. Correspondence chess is chess in which the players are not sitting opposite each other at one board to make moves in real time. Moves are transmitted remotely, and thinking time is normally counted in days per move, although the rules can use other units.

ICCF is the worldwide organization for this form of chess. It sets international rules, organizes individual and team championships, maintains its own ratings, numerical estimates of competitive strength within its system, and awards correspondence-player and arbiter titles. It was founded in 1951 as the successor to earlier correspondence-chess organizations.

ICCF is independent, while its statutes describe it as an affiliated international member of FIDE. It should not be confused with a national federation such as US Chess or with WFCC, which focuses on chess composition and solving.
