FIDE Trainer

FIDE Trainer, abbreviated FT, is a professional coaching title awarded by FIDE, the International Chess Federation. It is intended for trainers who have played at a professional level and possess the ability, knowledge, and skills to help students in international competitions.

A norm is a regulated tournament performance that counts toward earning a player title. The FT profile includes preparing students who are pursuing such norms or competing for championships. As general guidance, the regulations describe these trainers as typically working with players rated above 2200, where a rating is a numerical estimate of playing strength.

FT sits below FIDE Senior Trainer and above FIDE Instructor in the hierarchy. It is a trainer title, not a player title and not a label that any teacher may adopt merely because they coach players registered with FIDE.
