Explanation

The International Computer Games Association, abbreviated ICGA, brings together researchers, companies, developers and hobbyists interested in applying artificial intelligence to games. Artificial intelligence here means building systems that can analyze positions, choose actions and compete in tasks that normally require human reasoning.

Computer chess is central to its work, but ICGA is not limited to chess. It organizes the World Computer Chess Championships, the Computer Olympiad for many games, and academic conferences such as Computers and Games and Advances in Computer Games. It also supports a specialist community and publication for sharing technical results.

The International Chess Federation (FIDE) lists ICGA among its affiliated organizations. ICGA is not itself a program that calculates moves. A is software; ICGA is the association that provides competition, research and exchange frameworks for those programs and for other game-playing systems.
