Explanation

The Nightrider is a fairy piece that extends the knight's move. It may make one ordinary knight step or repeat that exact step in the same direction as a single move.

Suppose the first step goes one column right and two rows down. The Nightrider may repeat that same displacement a second and a third time. It may stop after any segment, but it cannot turn during the move.

Although each segment has the shape of a knight jump, the intermediate landing squares must be empty. A unit on one of them blocks further travel, just as a unit blocks a rook or bishop along its line. The Nightrider may capture an enemy unit only on its chosen final square.

This mixture of leaping and line travel distinguishes it from both the ordinary knight and the . A knight makes only one segment; a Grasshopper requires a hurdle and lands one square beyond it.
