Woman Candidate Master

Woman Candidate Master (WCM) is the entry title in FIDE's women's series. FIDE is the International Chess Federation. Above it are Woman FIDE Master (WFM), Woman International Master (WIM), and Woman Grandmaster (WGM). Like the open CM title, it is a complete title: the word Candidate does not mean that the player has a title application still pending.

The ordinary route requires reaching a 2000 rating, a number used to estimate competitive playing strength, and does not require norms. For ratings achieved after 1 July 2017, the player must have played at least 30 rated games when that level is reached. Once the title is awarded, she does not need to maintain a 2000 rating.

WCM can also be obtained through a direct title for specified official results. That route can use rating conditions different from the ordinary rating route. WCM is also not the same as Candidate Master (CM): CM is an open title and its ordinary rating threshold is higher.
