Explanation
A takeback removes one or more recorded moves and restores an earlier position. Depending on the platform, it may need to be enabled before the game, require the opponent's consent, or be limited to slower games that do not change a player's numerical strength score.
Takebacks are useful for teaching and casual play. A coach may ask a learner to try another idea, or two players may correct a . They are not a general right to erase mistakes. In an official competition, a legal move entered by the player normally stands even when it was accidental.
An administrative correction by an arbiter is different. Exceptional cases can arise, such as an authorized assistant entering a move other than the one indicated by a player with a disability. Any correction depends on the event rules and the arbiter's authority.
