Woman FIDE Master

Woman FIDE Master (WFM) is a title in FIDE's women's series. FIDE is the International Chess Federation. WFM sits below Woman International Master (WIM) and above Woman Candidate Master (WCM). It is separate from the open FIDE Master (FM) title even though the names share the words FIDE Master.

The ordinary WFM route is based on reaching a 2100 rating, the number used to estimate competitive playing strength, and does not require collecting norms. If that rating is achieved after 1 July 2017, the player must have played at least 30 rated games at that time. As with the other titles, she does not need to maintain that rating afterward in order to remain a WFM.

Another route is a direct title for a result that FIDE has explicitly associated with WFM in a recognized competition. Direct titles follow their own minimums and conditions, so 2100 describes the ordinary rating route rather than a level every WFM must remain above.
