Commonwealth Chess Association

The Commonwealth Chess Association is an international body representing chess activities among Commonwealth nations, a transnational group spanning several continents. The International Chess Federation (FIDE) lists it among its affiliated organizations, a category for bodies that unite federations or shared chess interests beyond one country.

Its scope is not continental. It serves as an umbrella for cooperation and competition among Commonwealth countries while every national federation keeps its own responsibilities. Those countries also take part in their respective continental structures, such as the Asian Chess Federation or the African Chess Confederation.

The association is best understood as an additional network based on Commonwealth membership, not as a replacement for FIDE or for continental confederations.
