Number of Games Won with Black

Number of Games Won with Black, abbreviated BWG, is a tie-break, meaning a rule used to order participants who finish on the same score. It counts games a participant won over the board while playing the black pieces. Both conditions must be met: the game was actually played with Black and ended in a win.

A win with White, a draw with Black, a loss with Black, or a full point awarded without a game does not count. The criterion therefore combines result and color in a measure narrower than Number of Games Won.

It must also be distinguished from Number of Games Played with Black, abbreviated BPG. BPG counts every result with Black; BWG counts only wins. Number of Wins may additionally include win-equivalent points obtained without playing.
