Two local lineages
Chess players were meeting regularly at Remagen's Rheingold inn by 1948. That circle founded Schachclub 1950 Remagen in 1950 and entered organized team competition two years later.
The Sinzig lineage began with informal games at Gasthaus Oberbillig in Bad Bodendorf in 1973. Fourteen players founded Schachfreunde Sinzig in 1978, and structured youth work started at the local primary school in 1981.
The reach and cost of the Bundesliga
Remagen won 2. Bundesliga West in 2005/06 and moved into Germany's top team division.
It stayed there for six seasons from 2006 to 2012, with fifth place in its debut year the high point.
After relegation in 2012, Remagen declined a place in the second tier because of the expected time and financial burden and entered its first team in Oberliga Südwest instead. With participation declining in both clubs, Remagen and Sinzig formed a shared-team arrangement, a Spielgemeinschaft, in June 2014.
From shared teams to a shared name
Two seasons of joint competition led to the merger in June 2016. Schachfreunde Sinzig dissolved, its members joined the Remagen entity, and the club adopted the name SC Remagen-Sinzig.
The new structure was followed by a rapid rise. Within two years the first team moved from 1.
Rheinland-Pfalz-Liga to 2. Bundesliga West.
An open local base and national blitz strength
The club organizes an in-person evening in Sinzig for play, analysis and training and explicitly welcomes newcomers and nonmembers. Children and young people have a separate session.
Team blitz has become a repeated national strength. Remagen-Sinzig won the German championship in 2023 and 2025, retained it in 2026, and in the same year won 2.
Bundesliga Nord to earn promotion to the top Bundesliga.
