Chess inside Casino Menestral

The club is a section of Casino Menestral Figuerenc, a cultural organization founded in 1856. This places chess within an institution organized through sections and with an associative history much older than the 1994 merger.

From the classroom to team chess

The chess school has operated since the present club was founded. In the 2011-2012 school year, the club and Figueres City Council launched Escacs a les aules to bring a structured introduction to local schools.

Its model is specific: four one-hour sessions during school time for second-year primary pupils at participating schools. That entry point exists alongside teams at several levels, from territorial divisions to the Catalan Divisió d'Honor in 2026.

Competition and public memory

Figueres won the Catalan First Division in 1998 and moved into Divisió d'Honor for 1999. Between that first season and 2023 it played 21 of 25 campaigns in Catalonia's top division, and it competed there again in 2026.

Obert Internacional Miquel Mas provides another visible thread of continuity: its federated series began in 2000 and reached a twenty-seventh edition in 2026. The name commemorates Miquel Mas i Campllonch, president of Penya Sant Jordi, connecting the event with one of the club's two predecessors.
