A record built across generations
The first national title came in 1985 under the name CS Clichy Echecs. A seventh championship in 1999 already broke Lyon-Oyonnax Échecs' record, and the tally reached fifteen with Clichy's 2017 victory in Chartres.
More than three decades separate the first and fifteenth titles. Silver at the 2022 European Club Cup later added a continental result to that domestic record.
School chess inside the club story
The club's connection with local education predates its recent successes. In 2000, Le Parisien reported that Clichy club instructors had already spent five years teaching during school hours in primary and lower secondary schools across the municipality.
Garry Kasparov's 2011 visit brought elite chess and school outreach into the same room. He registered with the club for the 2011-2012 season while about forty children who had learned chess at school replayed one of his games with help from a Clichy team player.
Two scales of club life
Clichy's municipal directory describes a programme that ranges from elite and team competition to lessons, school instruction, leisure play and annual events. The club's own site presents youth, women's chess, schools, competition and club life as separate but connected parts of the same organisation.
The honours list is therefore only one part of the profile. Clichy-Echecs-92 is both a team that has reached the European Club Cup podium and a local entry point for learning, team play and casual chess.
