Maison des Echecs Toulouse Lardenne

In western Toulouse, METL connects club-based learning with school outreach and neighborhood play.

A club shaped by western Toulouse

Maison des Echecs Toulouse Lardenne ties its citywide identity to Lardenne, the neighborhood most visible in its name. Toulouse's 2026 association directory also linked its work to Les Pradettes and Basso-Cambo, while the club's 2024 activities document a particularly clear Lardenne-Les Pradettes axis.

Children and adults, beginners and experienced players can use the club for instruction, recreational play or competition. In practice, that mix gives substance to the word Maison in the public name: learning and playing occupy the same community setting.

A route from school to club

In 2026, METL described regular work in primary schools, middle schools and high schools. Its 3 June school tournament brought together pupils from those workshops.

Many participants were entering the club for the first time and discovering its activity through competition.

The club had taken the same outward-facing approach in 2024. At the end of the school year, it extended its workshops through activities centered mainly on Lardenne and Les Pradettes.

At Lardenne's associations festival, its stand combined a giant set, casual games and condi-chess, a blitz variant with the clock placed ten metres from the playing table. Other activities from the same period used blindfold play and a tactile set adapted for blind players.

An anniversary organized around play

METL celebrated twenty-five years of existence in September 2018. The anniversary paired the usual morning lessons with a rapid tournament, linking the club's teaching role to the pleasure of playing together.

The Petit Capitole thread

The Open du Petit Capitole is the FFE-rated event most clearly associated with METL's public history. The club organized a documented edition in Toulouse-Lardenne in 2015, and the tournament reached its eighth edition in 2026.

Across those dates, the name remained tied to both the neighborhood and the organization.
