A new identity from two circles
Scacchistica Partenopea was created in 1996 when Gruppo Scacchistico Vomero and Gruppo Scacchistico Napoletano joined forces, bringing together two Vomero circles already rooted in the district. The history of the present organization begins with that union.
The connection to the older Accademia Scacchistica Napoletana runs through people, above all organizer Dario Cecaro: after that academy closed, Cecaro continued his work with Gruppo Scacchistico Vomero. Partenopea was still bringing players together in person in Vomero in 2026 after changing premises several times over the years.
A school within the club
In 2007 the club established a three-level chess school under the auspices of the Federazione Scacchistica Italiana (FSI). Serving adults and young players, it connects individual and group instruction with open play, study meetings and the club's tournament program.
The FSI named Partenopea its Southern Club of the Year in both 2012 and 2015. The awards belong to a history in which teaching and competition support each other: the association was still represented in the Italian Team Championship in 2026.
Biblioteca Marco Valenzi
Biblioteca Marco Valenzi is the club's most unusual feature. Its catalogue, updated in July 2026, distinguishes the Marco Valenzi collection, the La Palombara bequest and the Vallillo donation, while the library makes the material available for consultation and lending.
The website also preserves digitized issues of Il Giornale degli Scacchi edited by Dario Cecaro in 1973. These materials predate the club's foundation, but they place part of the publishing history of chess in Naples alongside contemporary play.
A national organizing role
Partenopea's national presence extends beyond its teams. In 2026 the FSI named Scacchistica Partenopea as the organizing club for the Master division and Italian Women's Team Championship finals, giving it an organizing role in two national finals.
