Teaching as a pathway
Accademia Scacchi Milano has built its identity around teaching without separating it from ordinary club play. In 2026 the official website documented adult courses, youth chess and competition, a combination that carries learning into shared practice.
By the 2010/11 school year, the association was coordinating courses in numerous schools across Milan and its province, supplying instructors and chess materials. Its stated model treated live play and competition as parts of learning, allowing lessons to lead into shared practice.
From schools to competition
In 2026 the academy was listed by the Federazione Scacchistica Italiana (FSI) as a level 1 and level 2 chess school. That year it also took responsibility for the upper-secondary Juniores categories in Milan's Trofeo Scacchi Scuola, continuing a relationship with education that reaches beyond courses held at the club.
The same pathway extends into youth competition. In 2026 FIDE registered the event CIG 2026, Accademia Scacchi Milano 2 U12-14, while the Lombardy regional committee listed four age-category champions playing for the club.
A new home in 2011
Losing the Via Laghetto premises in 2011 marked a difficult transition. Circolo Culturale I Navigli gave Accademia a new home and enabled its activities to continue.
Cultural work is a documented strand of the club's activity. Its archive records a monthly chess history series in 2011 and an exhibition of antique sets in 2014; in 2026 the website was still adding to its Cultura section with material on chess in literature, art and film.
Space for women players
Accademia delle Donne had already completed its first year by September 2010 and remains a visible part of the club's program. The Torneo delle Mimose, held in 2024, 2025 and 2026, provides a recurring event for women players.
The Al Buio tournament
In 2024 the Circolo Scacchistico Italiano per Ciechi e Ipovedenti launched the first national Al Buio tournament in collaboration with Accademia. Games used tactile boards, and members of the public could try that form of chess.
The collaboration continued in 2025 and 2026, when CSICI organized further editions at Accademia's premises. Three consecutive editions document a multi-year collaboration between the two chess communities rather than a single event.
