A new foundation in Arzachena
Arzachess was founded in 2013 by Giuseppe Corbo, Tullio Passalacqua and eight others. Corbo recalled an earlier chess scene in Arzachena during the 1970s.
That belongs to the town's background, while the present club took shape more than forty years later.
A network across Gallura
In 2023 the club held regular meetings in Arzachena, Olbia and Tempio Pausania. Its more recent official channels still describe it as a Gallura chess club and school, active in all three towns and offering lessons to children and adults.
Arzachess's public identity therefore spans several places and levels of experience, not only its competition team.
Eleven festival editions
Arzachess organized the first Festival degli Scacchi Città di Arzachena in 2014 and was still identified as its organizer at the eighth edition in 2023. The festival reached its eleventh edition in 2026, held at Isuledda in Cannigione in three sections and classified by the federation as an Italian and FIDE-rated tournament.
Across those editions, it has become a recurring fixture alongside the club's regular activity.
The step up to Serie Master
In 2022 Arzachess became the first Sardinian team to qualify for Serie Master, the top division of the Italian Team Championship. It finished third nationally in 2025.
For a club founded only nine years before promotion, that was a move from a territorial network into the top level of Italian team chess, and the 2025 podium gave the breakthrough a substantial sequel.
