The university as an ally

The relationship with CUS Catania began in a concrete form in 2012, when Centro Etna organized an international tournament in the ERSU study room at the university campus with the sports center's collaboration. The two organizations formalized their relationship with an agreement in November 2013.

The partnership did not erase the institutional boundary. CUS Catania held its own FSI affiliation in 2018, 2019, and 2020, while the federation's 2022 record listed CUS Catania Etna Scacchi as the name of a team belonging to Centro Etna Scacchi.

The team built through the partnership

The university alliance also created a visible path through the Italian Team Championship. In 2018, the CUS section assembled with Centro Etna's support moved from Serie B to Serie A2; it reached Serie A1 in 2019, and the joint team advanced to Serie Master in 2021.

A school built in stages

The FSI lists Centro Etna's school at levels 1, 2, and 3, covering the full set shown in the federation record.

Two programs document how the teaching activity worked in practice. In 2015, the club added a free course for pupils outside the CONI Ragazzi eligibility criteria; in 2025, an FSI register followed ten activities from the basic rules to tournament procedures and a concluding competition.

Working within the Catania circuit

Centro Etna also works through cooperation among local clubs. In 2025 and 2026, it co-organized the Catania Provincial Championship with Amatori Scacchi Catania and Galatea Scacchi, taking an organizing role in the same local event for two consecutive editions.
