A club addressed to the city
Firenze Scacchi was established in 2004 with a stated aim of spreading chess and chess culture across Florence, without confining them to one age group or social setting. The club also reports working with the municipal government and Florence's district councils on educational projects, exhibitions and public events.
In 2017 the Comune di Firenze documented weekly youth courses at two different locations, Circolo Vie Nuove and U.S. Affrico.
The association's in-person activity also includes social play and teaching for children, young people and adults, a combination that helps explain its citywide outlook.
The Vie Nuove strand
A.D. Scacchi Vie Nuove Aaron Nimzowitsch was founded in 2008.
It took both its host and its name from the Circolo ARCI Vie Nuove in Gavinana, tying its development to a neighborhood institution.
In 2014 Vie Nuove organized the third Florence Move with Firenze Scacchi. At the beginning of 2015 it was incorporated into Firenze Scacchi, where its activities continued.
Teaching by level
The Scuola Firenze Scacchi is recognized by the Federazione Scacchistica Italiana. Beginner courses are divided by age, while intermediate and advanced tracks bring young people and adults together around competitive improvement; social play and face-to-face exchange remain alongside formal teaching.
One association, several team names
In the 2026 Campionato Italiano a Squadre, names such as Firenze Scacchi Fuori Le Mura, Firenze Scacchi S.M.Novella and Firenze Scacchi S.Marco are all registered under A.S.D. Firenze Scacchi.
They are team labels of the same association, not separate clubs.
The competitive pathway also reached Serie Master: in 2025 the federation named Firenze Scacchi among the five teams already selected for the 2026 edition. That result gives context to the club's teaching and social base without making a single team its whole identity.
