1972 and a personal thread of continuity
Circolo Pratese degli Scacchi was founded in 1972. Fifty years later, as the club opened a larger room, two founding members received public recognition for their long commitment, making the institution's memory visible through people as well as dates.
From Spazio Giovani to an Italian title
The club's archived official blog presented a Spazio Giovani for players aged 8 to 16. Since 2017 its chess school has also held level 1 FSI recognition, giving the teaching program a stable institutional framework.
Prato arrived at the 2023 national youth finals with four mixed teams spread across the Under 10, Under 14, and Under 18 sections. The Under 10 side won the Italian team championship, the first national team title in the club's history.
Women's chess across ages and experience
The regional women's championship hosted at the Prato venue in March 2026 showed several entry points within one club environment. Alongside the senior side, which won its fourth regional title, the club fielded Liceo Copernico students, mothers of young players, and an Under 14 team.
Tournaments shaped by place
In 2022, the first Fondazione Cassa international tournament in Poggio a Caiano paired sections for different playing strengths with a giant outdoor chessboard. Visits to historical and artistic sites made the surrounding area part of the event's welcome program.
In 2024 the club carried that organizational work to Carmignano with a new international festival. An Under 18 event and tournaments named for historic members placed youth and community memory within the same program.
