One club across two campuses
The official account opened in July 2023, and two months later it recorded the club's third meeting in photographs. A sixth meeting was still being documented in December 2024, confirming that in-person gatherings continued across multiple semesters after the account launched.
In spring 2026, the club listed meeting locations in both Songdo and Sinchon and separately documented its first Sinchon session. Its footprint followed Yonsei University's split geography between Seoul and Incheon instead of remaining confined to one campus.
A low threshold for joining
Recruitment material welcomed Yonsei students regardless of chess experience and explicitly included graduate and exchange students. Participation was not narrowed to undergraduates or already experienced players.
In November 2025, a simultaneous exhibition with Hayoung Wong gave participants White and odds. The format placed a guest and several members in the same room for a structured mixture of learning and competition.
A board that extends beyond Yonsei
A joint event in May 2026 brought UCC together with chess clubs from Seoul National University, Ajou University, Sungkyunkwan University, and Hankuk University of Foreign Studies. It was a direct meeting between a club already operating across two campuses and a wider university chess network.
Summer Uni Chess Night later that year again brought together students from multiple universities. The sequence of recurring club meetings and inter-university events gives Underwood Chess Club a reach that is easy to distinguish from a one-off campus activity.
Yonsei student publication Sisboomba also devoted a March 2026 article to the club. That coverage presented UCC under its own name within the university as well as alongside its outward-facing events.
