An identity formed in team chess

The Via Chess name was visible in Korean team competition before the organization staged an open of its own. It appeared in the major division of the 25th K-League in 2022 and finished third in Division 1 of the 30th edition in 2024.

That record shows that the club name was in use before Via Chess began staging its own open events. The paired identities 비아체스 학원 and Via Chess Club later brought the educational venue and tournament organization into the same public profile.

Turning an academy into a rated venue

In June 2025, 비아체스 학원 hosted the first Via Chess Open in Seongnam. FIDE recorded it as a standard event at 60 minutes plus 30 seconds per move, while the local tournament notice identified the academy as both venue and host.

Blitz and rapid opens followed under the Via name one month later. Holding three rated formats from the same Seongnam base across June and July 2025 established a pattern of repeat hosting rather than a one-off event.

A recurring U1800 track

A 30+30 Via U1800 event was FIDE-rated in January 2026. A local listing identifies the June event with the same time control as another U1800 tournament, while the club's official account presents the under-1800 format as a regular program.

The first Via Open admitted FIDE ID holders from unrated players through those rated 2399, whereas the U1800 series narrows the field to players below 1800. Registration for that first Open was offered in Korean, English, and Russian, giving both local and international players a direct route into the event.
