A Russian-language doorway into chess
Ecclesia's official social channel describes an organization that runs clubs, classes, seminars and tournaments in South Korea. Together with the 2023 youth event, its largely Russian-language public communication gives the club a clear connection to a Russian-speaking community in the country.
That connection was especially clear at a winter event in December 2023, attended by about 80 Russian-speaking young people and preschool children. By combining certification activities with a tournament, the event joined structured chess activity with a community gathering in the same setting.
A standard tournament series in Cheonan
Ecclesia Open 2024 ran in Cheonan from January 27 to February 4 and was registered as a FIDE-rated standard tournament. The club's own channel described it as its first official rated tournament in the city.
A sixth Ecclesia U1800 standard event followed in December 2025, and the Ecclesia Easter Chess Tournament was held in April 2026. The recurrence of Ecclesia-named FIDE events across three years gives the sequence the shape of a series rather than a single open.
From an Easter event to a youth festival
The first Cheonan International Youth Chess Festival in 2026 grouped the Ecclesia Easter standard tournament with separate rapid and blitz events. The standard competition occupied several days, while the rapid and blitz were each registered as their own FIDE-rated events, creating a program across three speeds of play.
