Why a women-only chess table
Seoul Chess Queens is a women-only chess circle in Seoul. Its organizer explains that the group grew from concern about the numerical underrepresentation of girls and women in chess, with the aim of giving interested women a community in which to meet one another through the game.
The group welcomes every playing level and places learning, skill-building and friendship ahead of rankings or formal competition. That positioning allows beginners and experienced players to share the same social setting without turning the meeting into a tournament.
A meeting built around pairings
The published 2026 format began with introductions, moved into paired games and ended with optional conversation. When the numbers were uneven, the host repeatedly said she would give up her own game so attendees could be paired first.
Official event pages record in-person meetings at the same Jung-gu café on June 7, June 21, July 5 and August 16. A women-only Kakao Open Chat extended questions and social contact between those face-to-face sessions.
