서울대학교 체스클럽

A Seoul National University student chess community that connects seminars, inter-university exchanges, campus tournaments, and an internal rating record on the Gwanak Campus.

Learning at Kwanjeong Library

A rook endgame seminar held at Kwanjeong Library in November 2024 was presented as an advanced continuation of an earlier session. Rather than functioning as a one-off introduction, it carried prior study forward and made the club's combination of play and instruction visible.

The club's stated purpose points in the same direction. It places playing together, improving, and making friends within the SNU community in a single description, treating study and social connection as parts of the same activity.

Two entrances to campus competition

In spring 2026, the club held an in-person tournament on campus that was open to the Seoul National University community. The SNU Chess Open and a separate SNU Chess U1500 section ran on the same date, placing two competitive sections within one event.

The first Arena Night had already produced a separate winner's record earlier that month. By preserving it alongside the campus open events, the hall of fame records more than one club competition.

A record that outlasts the exchange match

An exchange match with the chess club at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies Global Campus in November 2025 connected activity on the Gwanak Campus with another university community. It was a concrete instance of student chess clubs meeting beyond their own institutions.

By August 2026, the official site displayed member ratings, results, games by color, and rating progress. That ledger gives repeated club games a longer memory than any one title and turns internal competition into an accumulating history.
