The New Hampshire Chess Club LLC

A Newmarket-based academy-and-club hybrid that joins youth instruction, all-age rated competition, and chess in public space.

A service-first beginning

The New Hampshire Chess Club was created in Newmarket in December 2022. Its founder's earliest public chess work extended beyond a conventional club night, including instruction at the Strafford County Department of Corrections and a weekly Gift of Chess program for young asylum seekers in South Portland.

From lessons to rated play

ChessKidz brought the club into Newmarket Recreation Center in spring 2023, while a parallel program began at Portsmouth Christian Academy. Newmarket's municipal description presents the workshop as a blend of instruction and competition, not simply a sequence of private lessons.

The New Hampshire Chess League supplies the competitive arm. It is the club's official league and organizes recurring US Chess-rated play in person and online for different ages and strengths; the town's recreation program has also offered all-age rated tournament play.

The board moves downtown

The most distinctive Newmarket project sits outside a classroom or tournament hall. The town and club partnered on downtown chess and checker tables, with game boxes available from local businesses and returned on an honor system.

A connected local chess network

Together, the programs give the young organization a clear academy-and-club identity. In Newmarket, a participant can encounter the same local network through instruction, rated competition, or casual public play rather than relying on one private classroom or one weekly clubroom.
