The 2007 precedent
In January 2007, the Club Atlético Cerro board authorized its chess subcommittee to organize tournaments at Academia nau64. In 2026, the national rapid and blitz team championships recorded squads named CERRO-nau64 A, B and C.
The regulations for the 2025 Uruguayan Women's Championship semifinal named the roles separately. Club Cerro and the Uruguayan Chess Federation appeared as organizers, while Academia Nau64 was designated as the playing hall.
A venue for the national women's championship
Both the semifinal and final of the 2024 Uruguayan Women's Championship were played at Cerro-Nau64. In 2025, the semifinal was played at Academia Nau64 under the organization of Club Cerro and the federation.
Across those two years, the shared label or the club-academy combination appeared in three stages of the national women's championship: as the playing site in 2024 and, in 2025, with Club Cerro among the organizers and Nau64 as the hall.
Two overall podium places and a women's title
At the 2024 Uruguayan Under-20 Championship, Cerro's Benjamín Martello finished second overall. Nahiara Fabra placed third overall and won the women's category, giving the club two places on the overall podium as well as the women's title.
The double podium brought youth and women's competition together in one national result. It also added a competitive dimension to a year in which Cerro-Nau64 hosted both stages of the women's championship.
Qualifying, broadcasting and analyzing
Club Cerro's Series B quarterfinal in January 2026 was played in person at the academy. The top two boards were broadcast live, and the main games were analyzed after every round.
At that qualifier, the playing room did more than hold the games: coverage and analysis were part of the same program. The format combined national qualification, public broadcasting and immediate review.
Cerro-nau64 as a team label
CERRO-nau64 A, B and C appeared in the 2026 national rapid and blitz team championships. In rapid chess, the B team won the Under-1800 category.
That same year, Luis Ernesto Rodi won the Uruguayan Absolute Championship with 6.5 points. The July FUA rating list registered him with Cerro, creating a dated link between the national champion and the club.
