Learning through organization

The 2023 National Youth Chess Festival put that model on a national stage. The Uruguayan Chess Federation and Enroque Largo organized the event in Melo for Under-8 through Under-18 open and girls' sections.

The work extended beyond the boards. Young members connected to the club in both departments, including students then living in Montevideo, returned as volunteers, and club leaders treated those responsibilities as part of their development.

Centro Unión Obrero, departmental bodies and families supported the logistics alongside the volunteers. That cooperation enabled an organization spread across several cities to take on a national youth festival.

A calendar that changes city

Enroque Largo's event history is marked by movement. It organized the 2019 National Interclub Championship and the 2022 Uruguayan Under-20 Championship in Treinta y Tres; the following year, the National Youth Festival was held in Melo.

The same pattern remained visible in 2026. The club organized an Eastern Regional league qualifier in Treinta y Tres and co-organized the Ciudad de Melo tournament in Melo with Bella Vista Ajedrez Sin Límites.

The regional qualifier included entrants associated with Varela, Cerro Chato, Minas, Treinta y Tres and Enroque Largo itself. In that setting, the club served as a meeting point for a chess geography broader than its three founding centers.

Competing under a shared identity

Competitive results accompany the club's organizational work. Enroque Largo teams won categories B and C at the 2019 Interclubs, and the club finished first in the national Serie B in 2025.

Those results, six years apart, show a collective identity returning at national level. Enroque Largo stands out by enabling a network of cities to organize and compete as one institution.
