A tournament to sustain the project
The Centro Cultural Florencio Sánchez introduced Fortaleza as a new neighborhood club of young chess players. It organized an official rapid tournament there, open to everyone, to raise funds for the project.
A municipal cultural venue, open access and fundraising gave the project a public presentation tied to the neighborhood. At that early stage, competitive chess served both as the activity itself and as a way to sustain the club.
An anniversary played in two sections
On July 26, 2026, Fortaleza organized the Festival de Ajedrez Villa del Cerro at Holanda 1715 and Grecia. Presented by the club as its first-anniversary celebration, the event combined a main section with an Under-14 tournament.
The neighborhood name became part of the festival title, and the youth field had its own official tournament. The anniversary therefore took the form of a two-section gathering with a dedicated entry point for players under fourteen.
From neighborhood rapid chess to the FIDE record
FIDE recorded the I Rapido Club de Ajedrez Fortaleza in its May 2025 tournament report for Uruguay. The club's name therefore entered an international rating record during its early public period.
The FIDE record and the later festival reveal two complementary scales: rated competition and neighborhood outreach. The first retained the club's name, while the second made the connection to Villa del Cerro explicit.
Seven Fortaleza teams in one national event
The final standings of the 2026 Uruguayan Rapid Team Championship recorded seven Fortaleza squads: A, B, C, D, JUV 1, JUV 2 and Senior. Fortaleza A finished third among 56 teams.
During the club's early public period, that presence gave the project competitive scale. Youth and senior labels appeared alongside four lettered teams, while the A squad reached the overall podium.
Four stages for western Montevideo
The 2026 Circuito del Oeste was structured as four stages, with a cumulative table sending four players to the playoff. Fortaleza promoted it as an event for western Montevideo.
The final was played from August 14 to 16 at Club Bella Vista. Its record named Circuito del Oeste as organizer and listed Club de Ajedrez Fortaleza as a supporting institution.
