A cultural center as the starting point
Club de Ajedrez La Costa dates its beginning to May 2024. The group initially met at the Centro Cultural de Ciudad de la Costa, linking its opening phase to one of the city's cultural institutions.
Four months later, the cultural center and the club jointly held an educational tournament for players aged 8 to 18. The format identifies one of the group's earliest entry points: a competition designed specifically for children and teenagers.
An anniversary across generations
The following year, the anniversary tournament on May 10, 2025 drew 46 players. The field widened the scope of that first youth competition and gave the club a larger open gathering.
The composition mattered as much as the number. The list included categories from under 10 through under 20, senior 50 and senior 65 players, and International Master Bernardo Roselli Mailhe at the top.
Moving into standard time controls
In December 2025, FIDE registered a standard tournament in Ciudad de la Costa under the club's name. Its 20 players used a time control of 60 minutes plus a 30-second increment per move, adding a long-form event to the club's early competitive record.
The sequence from the club's first two years does not fit a single format. La Costa combined a youth entry point, an intergenerational anniversary event and internationally registered standard play, rather than separating introduction to the game from formal competition in its opening phase.
