Lacoz Club de Ajedrez

Born from chess friendships spanning several departments, Lacoz anchored its activity in Colonia del Sacramento and turned that geography into a traveling circuit.

Chess friendships across departments

Lacoz presents itself as the creation of chess friends from Colonia, San José, Montevideo and Maldonado. A local report in 2023 placed its base in Colonia del Sacramento and described members connected with other towns and departments across Uruguay.

The August 2023 Integration Tournament brought that geography into an in-person gathering in Colonia del Sacramento. It drew players from six cities and included children and teenagers alongside adults.

A circuit that left Colonia and came back

In 2024, the Lacoz Chess Tour turned that geography into a competitive itinerary. The circuit held rapid stages in Montevideo, San José and Punta del Este before a Final A in Colonia del Sacramento.

The third stage, presented by the Maldonado departmental government as the last qualifier, included players from Uruguay and Argentina. The return to Colonia for the final made visible a model that left the club's base to build competition in other departments and came back to close the cycle.

A place in the Uruguayan championship cycle

The traveling dimension coexists with a documented presence in national competition. The federation's August 2026 Elo list records multiple Lacoz players, while the club's January quarterfinal in the Uruguayan Championship cycle opened with fifteen players registered under its name.

The interdepartmental reach also appears in formal competition. Lacoz's distinctive trait is the combination of its original network with intercity gatherings, a traveling circuit and federated representation.
