National events and delegations from across Uruguay

In May 2002, the Chess Subcommission arranged logistical support for the National Under-20 Championship and for participants travelling from departments outside Montevideo. Two months later, it did the same for delegations coming to the capital for the Uruguayan Interclub Championship.

A neighborhood section was taking on the practical work needed to bring together representatives from several departments.

In 2003, municipal records explicitly identified Progreso as organizer of the Uruguayan Interclub Championship. The following year, Club Atlético Progreso de Ajedrez promoted Montevideo's bid for the national Under-10, Under-12, Under-14, Under-16 and Under-18 championships, scheduled at the City Archive.

The championships were scheduled at a municipal venue rather than in the club's own playing room.

Andrés Rodríguez, from first tournaments to the title

Andrés Rodríguez recalled that his first competitive games were played at the Chess Circle of Club Progreso when he was ten. That places Progreso at the beginning of the Uruguayan grandmaster's competitive life.

In 2024, Rodríguez competed under the Progreso name. The federation's annual report records him as the Uruguayan absolute champion representing the club.

Progreso thus appears in both his earliest tournament experience and one of his major national titles.

Three absolute semifinals at the club

The 2024 Uruguayan Absolute Championship Semifinal was played at Progreso. The event gave the La Teja headquarters a visible place in the national championship cycle.

In 2025, the club itself was listed as organizer of the semifinal at the same venue, and the 2026 results record again named Club Atlético Progreso as the playing hall. The headquarters therefore hosted three consecutive editions of that national stage.
