Number of Games Won

Number of Games Won, abbreviated WON, is a tie-break, meaning a rule used to order participants who finish on the same score. It counts games the participant won over the board. A win with White or Black adds one; a draw or loss adds nothing.

The phrase over the board is decisive. A full point received without play, such as a full-point bye or an awarded win, may increase the tournament score but does not increase WON because no game was won.

This separates it from Number of Wins, abbreviated WIN, which counts rounds in which the participant receives the score awarded for a win, even without playing. Number of Games Won with Black is narrower still because the over-the-board win must also have been achieved with Black.
