Scoregroup

Also known as: Score group

The set of participants who have the same score for pairing purposes at a given point in a Swiss tournament.

The usual aim is to pair within these groups whenever the rules allow it. Without acceleration, this normally matches participants with the same tournament score and therefore similar results so far. A group may still contain an awkward number of players or have no legal solution because of previous opponents, colors or other criteria. The system then uses .

A scoregroup is not the same as a . The scoregroup is defined by one fact, the score. The pairing bracket is the set actually being processed and may contain players who floated in from another scoregroup.
