A systematic review of a finished game to understand decisions, errors, alternatives, and transferable lessons.

Explanation

Game analysis reconstructs what happened and why. It is not merely locating the first error label produced by software. It examines the player's decisions, clock use, moments when the position changed, and alternatives that deserved consideration.

  1. Replay the game without assistance and record what you thought, which threat you saw, and which options you considered.
  2. Mark critical moments: large changes in , meaning which side stood better, difficult decisions, or significant uses of time.
  3. Calculate alternatives and explain their ideas before learning a tool's answer.
  4. Then compare with a stronger player, a collection of recorded games, or a , a program that examines positions and suggests moves.
  5. Extract one specific lesson that can be recognized or practiced again.

Analyzing independently first preserves information the engine does not have: your intention, the moves you considered and rejected, and the cause of the error. Computer checking can reveal concrete attacks and show that a conclusion was false, but learning comes from explaining the difference. A written can also show where a reply was omitted or different sequences were mixed.

Usage and context

Wins, losses, and draws all deserve analysis. The result alone does not measure the quality of the decisions.
