Blitz

Blitz chess is a very fast form of the game. The FIDE Laws classify a game as blitz when each player has 10 minutes or less to complete all moves, including the effect of any increment through the regulatory calculation of initial time plus 60 increments.

There is an important distinction when rating is involved. FIDE's Rapid and Blitz Rating Regulations accept a blitz game for rating only when the calculated time is more than 3 minutes and no more than 10. An extremely short game can therefore fall under the Laws' blitz playing rules while still being outside FIDE's blitz rating range.

Online, the term bullet is commonly used for still shorter controls. That is a platform and community convention, not a separate category in the FIDE Laws of Chess.
