Consultation game

In a consultation game, one side is not controlled by a single person. Two or more players analyze the same position, exchange ideas, and agree on the move their side will make. The opposing side may also consist of several players.

The defining feature is that consultation happens inside one game. In the historic 1970 Space versus Earth game, for example, two cosmonauts played together against two participants on Earth. Each group acted as one side on a single board.

This differs from a team match, where team members normally play separate individual games on different boards. In an ordinary individual competition, getting another person's analysis during a game does not turn it into an authorized consultation game; consultation must be part of the stated format.
