Number of Games Played with Black

Number of Games Played with Black, abbreviated BPG, is a tie-break, meaning a rule used to order participants who finish on the same score. It is based on the participant's own record and counts games played over the board with the black pieces.

Over the board means that the game was actually played. A round without play, such as a points-awarded bye or an awarded win, does not add a Black game. The criterion also ignores the result: a win, draw, and loss with Black each count as one game.

BPG therefore differs from Number of Games Won with Black, which also requires a win, and from Number of Games Won, which ignores color. Color-allocation rules determine who receives Black; BPG merely counts the outcome of that allocation.
