Explanation
Number of Wins, abbreviated WIN, is a tie-break, meaning a rule used to order participants who finish on the same score. It counts rounds in which a participant receives as many points as the event awards for a win. The definition expressly includes cases with and without play.
An over-the-board win therefore counts, but so may a full-point bye or an awarded win if it gives exactly the event's win score. A half-point bye, a draw, or any smaller award does not count as WIN.
The difference from , abbreviated WON, is essential: WON requires an actually played and won game. adds the further condition of color. WIN measures rounds carrying a win score, not only results produced on a board.

With four played wins and one full-point bye, WIN may be 5 while WON is 4.
