FIDE Senior Trainer

FIDE Senior Trainer, abbreviated FST, is the highest title in the official trainer hierarchy of FIDE, the International Chess Federation. It recognizes an exceptional coaching record or distinguished service to chess. It is not a playing-strength title such as Grandmaster, and it does not by itself say that the holder is still an active competitor.

The regulations award it for distinguished service lasting more than ten years at a high level. The title also includes all men's and women's classical world champions. When a person's main work is coaching, at least ten years of high-level work is required.

In the hierarchy, FST stands above FIDE Trainer, FIDE Instructor, National Instructor, and Developmental Instructor. The distinction is not merely a rating band, meaning a numerical estimate of playing strength, but the scale and duration of the contribution recognized by FIDE.
